Database Performance
The well know major instruments to achieve a good database performance are: database design, indexes, table/index-partitioning, SQL statements definition; storage tuning across filegroups, physical disks/channels and RAID-configuration.
Most Database engines parallelize the statement execution across all available CPU cores to optimize query performance (SELECT).
